Yoshimoto banana was my gateway into learning Japanese.
I’m deeply drawn to how her stories distill moments of vulnerability in everyday life into a quiet, enduring resilience.
In particular, I was moved by the final scene in Kitchen, where the protagonist shares a bowl of katsudon with the male lead.
The way food, emotion, and the sensation of lying on the cool floor intertwine left a lasting impression on me.
While reading, I could almost feel the chill of the tiles—
as if their cold, tactile presence were quietly transmitted through the text itself.
